How Invisalign Works
Unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. They consist of clear plastic aligners that are designed to fit perfectly over your teeth. There are no brackets or rubber bands to contend with, so there is less opportunity for breakage or damage.
The aligners are replaced every few weeks as your teeth gradually shift into place. They do need to be worn up to 22 hours a day, so it’s important that they only take them out to eat or clean his or her teeth.
Invisalign works best for mild to moderate cases of misalignment, so if your teen has a more severe case, then Invisalign may not be the right treatment option.
Is Invisalign Right For My Teen?
Compliance is really important for Invisalign treatment. If your teenager is fairly disciplined and able to follow directions they have a better shot at completing their treatment successfully. They must be worn up to 23 hours per day, and should only be removed for eating and cleaning the teeth.
Metal braces consist of more hardware then Invisalign, so there is more opportunity for them to break or become damages. Invisalign aligners are more streamlined and simple to apply.
In this day and age of Social Media and selfies, your teen may feel insecure or embarrassed about the appearance of chunky metal braces and Invisalign could be a solution to that. They are virtually invisible, making them a great option for professional adults as well.
